Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a victory against the Ivory Coast, the nation host of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Super Eagles have moved to second place in Group A after a 1-0 win at the Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé.

The match ended in a first-half draw, in which the Super Eagles and Équipe de Football de Côte d’Ivoire both missed some chances in the first half of the match.

In the second half of the games, Victor Osimhen secured a penalty, and Troost-Ekong netted the penalty, giving Nigeria a lead via a very powerful shot of the penalty.

The match went tough after Ekong scored the penalty, and Ivory Coast did all they could to equalize the goal, but the match ended in favor of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Having played the same number of games, Ivory Coast has three points, good for third place.

Guinea-Bissau is in fourth place with no points, while Equatorial Guinea leads the group with a goal differential over Nigeria.

Nigeria’s final group match will now take place in a few days against Guinea-Bissau.
